It’s September, but in the South it’s still hotter than seven hells. Like a true Southern, beat the heat back with a refreshing cocktail. This one is called the Southern Gentleman.
Typically when you think of the South and summertime, you think of the Mint Julep. However, this take on The Southern Gentleman, just may have you second guessing which beverage will be your go-to summertime cocktail.
Like all cocktails, there are variations and different preferences, but to me, this style is such a different and refreshing beverage. The blackberry and mint combination is intoxicating and I must warn you, it is certainly easy to drink these fast and you may find yourself getting plum out the frame, quick. But hey, why not. When it’s beautiful out and you live in the South, why not get a little loose and enjoy yourself.
Ingredients:
- 1.5-2 oz. (Bulleit Rye)
- 0.5 oz. simple syrup
- 4-5blackberries muddled
- mint leaves muddled plus a small sprig for garnish
- splash of lemon juice (about 1 tablespoon)
This cocktail is sweet and colorful and a great way to end the season. You can also make this with peaches instead of blackberries, but i prefer this way. I hope you enjoy!
